Either that or the reality distortion field was particularly strong at the Apple Store.

I had an appointment at the Genius Bar to swap out my iPhone.  It had been acting really strange when I was syncing it and phone support determined that the firmware was corrupt.  Turns out my USB hub is apparently the problem since the new phone did the exact same thing when I connected it.

I came really, really close to getting a MacBook Air.  Really close.  I should have never touched it…but man, once you do.  It is really an amazing piece of engineering.  As it happened, they were sold out.  This was a good thing since it gave me a chance to shake off the spell I was under.

I’ve been messing around with my other machines, loading Ubuntu and various apps to make them sorta-kinda-maybe behave like a Mac.  Outside of giving myself a little geek thrill by teaching myself how to get around (sort of) in Linux, I knew I wasn’t really satisfied.  And my eeePC is a little worse for wear after I realized that I know nothing about partitioning drives.

So, I took the MBA being out of stock as a sign and saved myself five hundred bucks by opting for a MacBook instead.  And while it may not be as sexy, it’s more powerful and versatile than the Air and should last me a good long time.

My boycott of eBay might just have to wait.  I still have to file for my tax return and I need to pay for this puppy somehow!
