I was cruising YouTube looking at puppies and somehow or other, this showed up in the “related videos” list. Not so sure about that one but fortuitous, nonetheless. Man, I loved this song.
Gorky Park - Bang
While I’m hippety-hopping down my memory lane of obscure bands, there was another out around the same time called Freur. Another European band, heavy accents, atmospheric new wave. I actually managed to stumble across this on CD not so long ago.
Freur - Doot Doot
Twitter. Photoshop Express. Flickr. I love web apps. I use web apps a lot. I’ll squeal over them later. This post is about a free download that makes all of those web apps live on your desktop. (Sorry - this one is Mac only.)
Fluid is a tiny little application that allows you to build Site Specific Browsers (SSBs) for the apps you use most often. Rather than having a bunch of tabs open in your browser - Firefox, right? - you create an SSB that you can call up at any time. For example, I use Twitter but I prefer to get there via Hahlo. Thanks to Fluid, I have an icon that lives in my menubar that launches Hahlo. Not Firefox, not Safari - Hahlo. I don’t have to worry about slowing my browser down with yet another tab. And with the addition of a script, Hahlo will also pop new tweets up using Growl.
It works with any web app - GMail, Delicious, .Mac and so on. And the apps work well with it; for example, GMail’s icon will update with dock badges for unread messages, just like a regular mail app.
It’s flexible, very useful, and best of all - free. Give it a try!
I kind of nuked my comments while I was upgrading to Disqus.
Crap.
You know what that means, right? It’s time to roll out the Gunther!
Bananas! Melonas! Yeah!

w00t! Another epithet to add to my profile!
Awesome! Wanna make something of it?
My Spore creature, Nintin. I’m not a big gamer but after playing around with just the trial version of the Creature Creator, I’m hooked.
Going to be a long time until September 7 rolls around, though.
After a couple of months of trying to resist, I bought myself a really neat solar system picture yesterday. It just makes me smile with the robots and the spaceships and the green glitter. And I had a spare wall in my computer room which is where my nerdiness all hangs out.
One thing I hadn’t noticed was the tag on the back:
Because we all know a girl wouldn’t want it unless it was a princess riding a pink pony, right?
It’s 2008 and we still have this kind of gender stereotyping. No, I don’t have kids but I really want to see girls being given the opportunity and encouragement that they need to develop an interest in science. And little messages like this just further reinforce the perception that “science is for boys”.
Not cool, Target. Not cool at all.
